about manor beehives
This is where it all started
Back in ????, we noticed that a swarm of bees had decided to call our chimney home at our house in the Adelaide Hills. I didn’t know anything about bees, so I called a bee expert who came out and tried to get the swarm out of my chimney, but he wasn’t able to get the queen.
So I did a bunch of research and learned what the queen looks like and how to catch a swarm. I made myself a makeshift bee suit with netting and masking tape, and I climbed onto the roof of our house and I scooped out as many bees as I could into a box, and it worked. I had transferred the queen and the rest of the swarm followed. Now I had a swarm but didn’t know what to do with them! So I did some more research.
And that’s when I realised how amazing and fascinating bees are and I knew I wanted to help them. I learned about different types of hives, and about natural beekeeping, and realised I wanted to make Warre beehives because…………………
And the rest is history!
